The short answer: Craigslist took its Personals section offline in the US on March 22, 2018, including on Craigslist Houston. No single site replaced it. Personal ads in Houston now live on Reddit’s r/houstonr4r, on classified-style sites such as Doublelist and SeekingList, in Locanto’s personals section, and in text-first apps including AseeksB. On October 7, 2026, we read the 20 newest Houston ads on three of them.
Houston has the busiest personals board in Texas. On October 7, 2026, Reddit showed about 12,000 weekly visitors on r/houstonr4r, more than the Dallas-Fort Worth and Austin boards combined, and its rules are strict: posting needs an account at least 7 days old with at least 10 karma, and even the names of messaging apps are banned.
It is also a driving city. The Loop, the Beltway, and the Grand Parkway ring a metro that runs from Katy to Baytown and from The Woodlands to Pearland, so a written ad that says which side of town you are on, and how far you will drive, saves everyone a long stretch of freeway.
The sites that replaced Craigslist Personals in other US cities serve Houston too. Here is how each works for Houston, from our checks on October 7, 2026:
On October 7, 2026, we read the 20 newest Houston ads on three of these sites and counted the escort ads. On Doublelist, 6 were escort ads. On Locanto, 6 were, all posted as women: 6 of its 7 women’s ads, and several were duplicates from the same poster. The men’s ads looked like ordinary personal ads. On SeekingList, 16 of the 20 were escort ads, all posted as women, one of them from the same poster as the Locanto duplicates; the men’s ads looked ordinary. The r/houstonr4r posts we read were ordinary personal ads, and the board is heavily moderated. Passing this test doesn’t make an ad genuine: an ad can look ordinary and still try to move you to another app once you reply. Lex and AseeksB ads can’t be read without an account, so they weren’t counted. How we check.

Craigslist Houston has had no Personals section since March 2018, yet “craigslist houston personals” still gets about 720 searches a month, up 51% over the past year (Google Keyword Planner, October 2026). “doublelist houston” gets about 12,100 searches a month, up 22% on last year (Google Keyword Planner, October 2026). Doublelist has a Houston page. Anyone can see ad titles, but reading a full ad needs an account. Posting is free for up to 3 posts, and seeing members’ photos takes a paid plan; its help center lists two, Hookup and Hardcore, at $45 and $90 a year.

Craigslist Houston’s missed connections, under Community, are quiet but real: when we checked on October 7, 2026, it had 10 posts from the previous three months, all genuine missed connections. In a city this spread out, the details that help are the ones a driver would use: the exit, the store, the neighborhood, and the time.

Not everyone looking for Houston singles wants an app at all. The Houston Singles Meetup Group, hosted by the speed-dating company Pre-Dating, had about 1,200 members in October 2026 and runs speed-dating nights by age range. CitySwoon runs speed dating by age range in Houston too. r/houstonr4r also lists r/HoustonSocials (about 32,700 members) and r/HoustonDating (about 8,200) among its related boards. By Reddit’s own weekly counts, r/houstonr4r was the busiest of the Texas personals boards we checked on October 7, 2026. Dallas-Fort Worth’s r/r4rDFW had about 5,200 weekly visitors; we cover it in personal ads in Dallas-Fort Worth. Austin’s r/atx4atx had about 2,100; see personal ads in Austin. San Antonio’s r/satx4satx is restricted and quiet, with about 300. And the Personals Archive’s only Texas ad so far ran in the El Paso Herald in 1912.
A written ad settles the distance question before anyone gets on the freeway.
One honest difference: AseeksB ads can only be read inside the app after signing up, unlike Reddit’s board and most of the classified sites above. That is the trade for choosing exactly who sees each post.
